Swimmer of Meet

Anglian League
21st April, 2007

The second round of the Anglian League saw the A team come away with a convincing victory, winning 21 races of  the 31 possible and the B team winning  4 of those.

Picking a swimmer of the meet is not easy in those circumstances so I look at swimmers who achieve a personal best time.

There were 18 PB's swam in total.

Sam Wright could have finished his Anglian League career  with a bang as he won the 100m Individual Medley breaking the cut off time; he then needed to beat 32.2 for the 50m Butterfly.  His victory time was 32.23 so Sam will still be available for the next round by the skin of his teeth!

A few other swims caught my eye.  Brendan Clark broke the cut off time in the 100m Freestyle with a PB.  Joe Morris gained a PB in the 50m Breaststroke and a PB from Emma Penniston in the 100m Backstoke.

Swimmer of the Meet is Kimberley Van Haren - winner of the 100m  Butterfly in a PB, the 100m Freestyle and the 50m Breaststroke also in a  PB.

The B team were involved in a close battle all evening with St.Ives and Huntingdon all vying for second place and for most of the evening the Boston team were on top.

It would have been a great result for Boston to have come away with first and second places.
The end result was both Huntingdon and St Ives finishing  joint 2nd place with Boston B coming 4th by two points.

It could have been so different if we had not had disqualifications - also with proper refereeing the St. Ives swimmer and our own Paige Royce should have been disqualified for a false start.  If that had happened we would have finished on equal points with St. Ives.

The swimmers who were not available for the night would have made a big difference and the late withdrawal meant that we only had 5 boys.

Still, it was a great result for the B team and some good competition within the club meant Eleanor Reed turned over the A team in the 50m Butterfly and Paige Royce did the same in the 200m Individual Medley.

Swimmer of the Meet is Joseph Howe, winner of the 200m Individual Medley and the 100m Breaststroke both in personal best times  Joseph also gained a PB in the 50m Freestyle - must be something to do with training hard again!
