Swimmer of Meet

Boston Open Meet
6th January, 2008

There were a lot of good swims and County Times gained with a few swimmers just missing 1 or 2.  It is so important to keep up with your training over the Christmas period.
I would like to thank everybody for their help in making it a successful day, but I think it is too long and  feel we would be better having it over two days.

Back to the swimming.  Michael Craven, Zak Lomas and Ben Pogson each won gold in the first event, the 200m Backstroke, and Heather Guy won the first event for the girls - the 200m Breaststroke.
With Cleethorpes and Scunthorpe joining forces they made a very strong team and dominated event 3, the boys 50m Breaststroke, meaning  we had no winners.  Kimberley van Haren was our winner in the girls 50m Butterfly.

In the boys 200m Butterfly, Reuben Reed and Oliver Street finished 1st and 2nd in the 11 years age group.  Jack Featherstone and Kieran Edmonds did the same in the 12 years age group with Elvjis Roberts and Alex French pulling it off in the 14 yrs age group.

With the girls hitting a blank in the 200m IM, the boys finished the morning session off with wins from Mantas Knisevskis, Zak Lomas and Ben Pogson in the 50m Backstroke.

Boston then had to wait until event 11, the boys 50m Butterfly, to see wins from Mantas Knisevskis, Zak Lomas and Chris Willerton, with Oliver Street and Reuben Reed once again making it a 1-2 for Boston.

The girls were finding it hard to come out on top and it was the boys again in the 200m IM with Reuben Reed and Zak Lomas winners in this event.

On to the evening session and the 200m Freestyle saw Reuben Reed and Oliver Street bringing home 1st and 2nd place again, and Ben Pogson and Sam Wright doing the same in the 15 yrs and over age group.  Mantas Knisevskis won the 12 yrs age group and again there were no wins from the girls.

In the boys 100m IM we took 1st and 2nd yet again with Oliver Street and Reuben Reed. Chris Willerton and Sam Wright came 1st and 2nd in the 15 years and over age group and Jessica Murfin won for the girls.

The final event, the 50m Freestyle, saw Ben Pogson and Sam Wright making it another 1-2 placing for Boston, with Reuben Reed and Mantas Knisevskis both winning their age groups.

I have chosen Mantas Knisevskis as the Swimmer of the Meet, not only for winning events but he also swam 5 personal best times.

Well done to you all,
Ian
