Swimmer of Meet

Burns Open Meet, Sheffield
26/27 January, 2008

This should be easier to choose than most with only four swimmers qualifying for this Level One meet  which was packed with International stars including our own Melanie Marshall who is an honorary member of Boston club.
But as Mel did not go under 2 mins for 200m Freestyle she will not be getting swimmer of the meet!

Zak Lomas swam long course pb's in the 100m and 200m Backstroke and Ben Pogson hit form after a disappointing Leeds Meet in December, gaining a British Olympic Trial time in the 200m Backstroke to go with the 100m time that he achieved at the National Championships.
Both swims were long course pb's and Ben also achieved pb's in the 50m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle. Surely he has to have Swimmer of the Meet?

Patrick Ikhena, who could not do anything right at Leeds and having his Brother beat him in the 200m Breaststroke, produced best times in every swim and finished in third place in the 50m Breaststroke and Butterfly.

My Swimmer of the Meet is going to Reuben Reed - the only swimmer not to gain a pb - although he still finished in third place in the 400m Individual Medley.  I was impressed with his 200m Butterfly, swimming an even pace and smashing his long course pb in a time of 2.51.95 and finishing in 2nd place.  Although Reuben did not make the top three in his 400m Freestyle - finishing 4th - he swam faster in the 50m pool than he ever has in a 25m pool, gaining a District Qualifying Time.

Well done lads, it's a lot more enjoyable for me when we are focused on the job ahead - and where were the girls?
