Swimmer of Meet

Downham Open Meet
7th October, 2007

Well done to all the swimmers who took part in the Downham Open, particularly to those competing in their first open meet.

In all there were 15 clubs attending and we were the largest with 28 swimmers taking part.

There were a few swimmers finding good form so early in the season, each producing three personal best times and those were:
Brandon Whitham, Georgia Hodgkiss and Hannah Macleod.

One swimmer who really caught my eye and also produced three PB's was Nikita Singer, who took 7 seconds off her 50m Breaststroke time and showed great enthusiasm throughout the day.

Harriet Housam is still showing great improvement - producing 4 PB's in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke.

Caoimhe Atkin-Palmer also gained 4 PB's in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Backstroke and 100m Individual Medley.

Swimmers finishing in the top 6 were as follows:

Hannah Macleod - 3rd in Butterfly, 5th in Freestyle and 5th in Backstoke

Megan Edmonds - 4th in 100m Individual Medley

Emily French - 4th in 50m Backstroke

Kieron Edmonds - 5th in 50m Butterfly

Harriet Housam - 6th in 50m Backstroke

Hollie Royce - 6th in 50m Breaststroke, 50m Backstroke and 100m IM

My decision for Swimmer of the Meet however, goes to Mantas Knisevskis with 3 personal best times and although not achieving a win he tried desperately all day and gained 2nd place in the 50m Breaststroke, 2nd in 50m Backstroke, 3rd in the 50m Butterfly and 3rd in the 50m Freestyle.  Well done Mantas, so very well deserved.
