Geoff Moulder was Mr Swimming
of Boston.
Geoff was a good 100 yards freestyle swimmer in his time and also a first
class water polo player.
This of course, was before there was a swimming pool in Boston and they
swam in the wash at high tide.
During his time as a
Councillor, Geoff was influential in getting a roof over the then
outdoor pool, hence the pool is now named after him. If he was alive
today I'm sure he would be just as influential in bringing the pool up to
the highest standards.
Geoff was President of
Boston Amateur Swimming Club for many years and our special 200m Gala is
in memory of him.
Boston A team came out on top beating South Lincs by 11 points and
Grantham by 34 points. It was very close for third place however,
with our C team ahead of the B team and both ahead of Wellingborough after
20 events. Seven events later at the end of the gala, Wellingborough
had beaten the B team by 1 point and the C team came in 7 points
behind.
The B team Swimmer of the Meet goes to Oliver Street with
the only second place finish for his team in a new best time in the
200 Butterfly, finishing behind A team swimmer Reuben Reed.
The C team was a little bit harder to pick as both Charlie Lay (9yrs 200m
Freestyle) and Mantas Knisevski (11/u 200m Breast) finished in second
place beating the B team and both producing best times.
My choice for Swimmer of the Meet is Charlie Lay as he also
beat the A team.
The A team proved even harder to select a winner with Ose Ikhena and
Reuben Reed both double winners.
Ose won the 11/u 200m Breaststroke and Backstroke, Reuben won the 9/u 200m
Fly and Freestyle.
Swimmer of the Meet goes to Ose Ikhena as both his swims
were best times and Reuben's Freestyle was just outside his best.
