Swimmer of Meet

Midland Age Groups
3/4th June - 10/11th June, 2006

Normally I would give swimmer of the meet to a winner, and with Ben Pogson being District Champion in the 100m and 200m Backstroke (a good achievement - we don't have many of those), he was an obvious choice but I was disappointed with Ben's attitude in the 1500m Free so I turned my attention to the other swimmers.

Patrick Ikhena had to be my next choice in winning the 100m Breaststroke - another District Champion, but I felt his overall performance could have been better.

Please don't take this wrong lads - I am proud of both of you!

Laura Swain achieved 2nd place in the 200m Breaststroke and 3rd in the 100m Breaststroke - both good swims, what a season she has had!

All three swimmers will now go to the National Age Groups for the first time and again this is no mean achievement as only three other swimmers have achieved this since I have been at the Club.

Swimmer of the Meet over the two weekends is Kimberley Van-Haren.

I sometimes hear poor excuses about the fact that we do not do enough open meets in 50 metre pools, but that is all they are: excuses.  Kimberley shows no fear of a 50m pool, lets face it, it is the same amount of water.  Kimberley's best result in the County Championships was third place.  She managed to qualify for every event which is no mean achievement and every swim apart from the 400 IM beat her short course best time.

Kimberley took the Silver medal at 100m and 200m Fly and the 200m Breast; Bronze in the 200m and 400m IM and 100m Breaststroke.

If Kimberley can work as hard as this next season, she too will be going to the National Age Groups.
