Swimmer of Meet

National Championships
August 2006

Ben Pogson had the added pressure of being in the final heat of the 100m and 200m Backstroke in his first nationals.  Ben who had a great season could not find his best form and finished 13th place in the 100m and 18th in the 200m.  Ben also finished 29th place in the 1500m Freestyle.  Hopefully Ben can work hard and go to the Youths next year.

Patrick Ikhena proved that he ranked with the best in the 12 year age group finishing in 7th place in the 100m Breaststroke and without swimming his best time.  Patrick finished 21st in the 100m Freestyle.  Patrick will need do more hours next year to maintain this standard.

Laura Swain is my Swimmer of the Meet.  In the 200m Breaststroke Laura beat her short course PB and would have made the final if it was not for the Turkish squad.  It's a shame it was  not just the British Nationals. So a creditable 11th place finish in the 100m Breaststroke - Laura dived too deep and was slower at the first 50 than she was in the 200, Laura put in a good second 50 but never recovered and had to settle for14th place.  If  Laura can continue to train hard maybe she will make the finals next year especially as her dive will improve.
