Suffolk Open Meet |
Once again I told swimmers not to swim at Spalding if they wanted to swim well at this meet. What's more important getting your Midland times or trophies? The swimmers looked tired and so were rested with no training on Monday. Not all swims were poor however, Kimberley Van Haren came to Bury to get her Midland time in the 400m Individual Medley and another good swim from Kimberley meant achieving that aim. And what a swimmer collecting all Midland times possible for her age! A swimmer of the future if Kimberley can carry on training hard and keep smiling. Ben Pogson's 50m Backstroke was impressive beating everybody who entered. He should have gone under 30 seconds but the1st length was slower than the 2nd at 14.8; this lad is capable of going under 1min for the 100m Back next year. Well done to Oliver Street, gaining his 1st and 2nd Midland times in the 100m and 200m Backstroke. I'm sure if Oliver had not been rejected for the 200m Fly he would have gained this time also; another good worker - one to watch in the future. I felt gutted that Ben Warren, who swam well inside his Midland time by 7 seconds, only to be disqualified for gliding into the turn. Patrick Ikhena, who gained National times at Spalding when they didn't count, could not find the same form at this meet but went closer to achieving a National time in the 200m IM. Swimmer of the Meet goes to Laura Swain - winning her age group in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke. Laura missed her 100m Breaststroke by 1/10th and improved on her 200m time in which she has already got her National time. Laura pleases me more than most as she takes on board what I say - for example in the 200m Breast, I asked Laura to turn her 23 points into 22 points and told her she would not be able to hold the 22's but a few would give her a PB. Laura's splits were - 19.0, 22.6, 22.7, 23.0 =1.27.5 23.4,23.9, 23.7, 23.2 =1.34.2 Time 3.02.09
